Still Playing the Virtual Way!
Our “Virtually There” Team is created to let all caring members and donors participate in the 2009 walk for Celiac Disease. Therefore, even though you may not be able to physically be present, at one of the major cities participating, you can still participate the virtual way. This is our virtual walk for the tireless...one who never tires of advocating for awareness and change! Whether you are personally afflicted or a caring family member or friend, we need your support!
Celiac Disease (CD) affects 1 in 133 people and yet it remains the most under-diagnosed disease in America. Celiac is a genetic disorder affecting children and adults. People with CD are unable to eat foods containing gluten, found in wheat and other grains. The gluten triggers an autoimmune reaction causing the destruction of the small intestine villi. The body produces antibodies to attack the gluten, but these same antibodies also attack the intestine, causing damage and illness. Untreated Celiac Disease can be Life Threatening!
We need everyone’s help to continue the momentum to raise awareness and help find a cure.
